Illustration Friday : Horizon

(Click on image for a closer look)

I don't know about you, but I see the possibility of love on the horizon.

:D

Some of you probably remember the older illustration this is based on. This is in fact the same illustration re-worked in my present style. Or rather an updated version of the older illustration.

I've always had a soft spot for that particular piece but realized that my illustration style had changed a lot since I'd illustrated it earlier (for Inspire Me Thursday's topic of 'Music' and later re-submitted for Illustration Friday's 'Play'- you can see the original entry here) and so decided to redo it.

I actually completed this sometime last week and since then I've been spending a lot of time staring at it and trying to figure out what's missing. I kinda have this feeling that it's still incomplete. I can't figure it out. Maybe I'm looking to weave more of a story into it? Not sure.

Below is an image of the older and newer versions side by side. Quite some difference huh? :)

Thank you so much for your kind comments on last weeks entry. All the positive feedback was encouraging and I'm definitely going to be doing more illo's in that particular style! Thank you!

I'll stop rambling now but before I sign off I'd just like to say - Happy Holidays everyone! :)

Cheers,
Radha

Illustration Friday: Backwards

Backward (adverb- at or to or toward the back or rear) glances from pretty young women can be pretty potent to backward ( adj. bashful or hesitant; shy) young men. So potent in fact, that in this particular case, the young man in question (being a recipient of such a backward glance) is about to make a complete fool of himself by wandering off the path and into a tree. Here's a closer look at the backward glance...

In case you're wondering about the girly dog's expression, she's probably going 'Hmph, how totally backward (retarded, underdeveloped)!' Can you blame her? You would too, if you saw someone walk into a tree.

Also, for the definition of the word 'backwards' as shy, hesitant etc., dictionary.com provides the following example -

9.bashful or hesitant; shy: a backward lover.

Backward lover? Lol...for some reason using those two words together strikes me as hilarious and just saying it in my head (forget aloud) makes me feel silly! Is it just me?

:)

Cheers!

Feed My Blog!

The new monster in my sidebar is courtesy Illustrator Nacho Gómez (has really nice illustrations on his blog).

I found the link to Nacho's blog at Sheree Boyd's blog, which is also home to some really wonderful illustrations(go check them out now!).

And oh, do feed my blog! :D

Inspire Me Thursday : Ice & Illustration Friday : Little Things

This is my submission for Inspire Me Thursday this week and is the first thing I thought of when I thought of 'Ice'. However, it turned out completely different from the vision in my head. At some point of time I even deviated from the original intended style.

This also doubles up as my submission for Illustration Friday's 'Little Things'. Cos' certain little things in this illustration make me happy. Like her scarf (I certainly seem to have developed a scarf fetish). And the trees. And the colour red.

Of course, there are little things I'm not happy with too. Like her features. Maybe her pose? (I've never been ice-skating before. I've never even seen snow. It does'nt snow out here in the south of India and inspite of all the travelling I've done, I've never been anywhere where it's snowed.) And now that I think of it, the colour of her pants.

Will probably (hopefully) give this illustration another shot in my usual style. In the meantime, do let me know what you think!

Cheers.
