Illustration Friday : Horizon

(Click on image for a closer look)

I don't know about you, but I see the possibility of love on the horizon.

:D

Some of you probably remember the older illustration this is based on. This is in fact the same illustration re-worked in my present style. Or rather an updated version of the older illustration.

I've always had a soft spot for that particular piece but realized that my illustration style had changed a lot since I'd illustrated it earlier (for Inspire Me Thursday's topic of 'Music' and later re-submitted for Illustration Friday's 'Play'- you can see the original entry here) and so decided to redo it.

I actually completed this sometime last week and since then I've been spending a lot of time staring at it and trying to figure out what's missing. I kinda have this feeling that it's still incomplete. I can't figure it out. Maybe I'm looking to weave more of a story into it? Not sure.

Below is an image of the older and newer versions side by side. Quite some difference huh? :)

(Click on image for a closer look)

Thank you so much for your kind comments on last weeks entry. All the positive feedback was encouraging and I'm definitely going to be doing more illo's in that particular style! Thank you!

I'll stop rambling now but before I sign off I'd just like to say - Happy Holidays everyone! :)

Cheers,
Radha

Illustration Friday: Backwards

Backward (adverb- at or to or toward the back or rear) glances from pretty young women can be pretty potent to backward ( adj. bashful or hesitant; shy) young men. So potent in fact, that in this particular case, the young man in question (being a recipient of such a backward glance) is about to make a complete fool of himself by wandering off the path and into a tree. Here's a closer look at the backward glance...

In case you're wondering about the girly dog's expression, she's probably going 'Hmph, how totally backward (retarded, underdeveloped)!' Can you blame her? You would too, if you saw someone walk into a tree.

Also, for the definition of the word 'backwards' as shy, hesitant etc., dictionary.com provides the following example -

9.bashful or hesitant; shy: a backward lover.

Backward lover? Lol...for some reason using those two words together strikes me as hilarious and just saying it in my head (forget aloud) makes me feel silly! Is it just me?

:)

Cheers!

Feed My Blog!

The new monster in my sidebar is courtesy Illustrator Nacho Gómez (has really nice illustrations on his blog).

I found the link to Nacho's blog at Sheree Boyd's blog, which is also home to some really wonderful illustrations(go check them out now!).

Click on the image to go over to Nacho's blog and get a monster of your own.

And oh, do feed my blog! :D

Inspire Me Thursday : Ice & Illustration Friday : Little Things

This is my submission for Inspire Me Thursday this week and is the first thing I thought of when I thought of 'Ice'. However, it turned out completely different from the vision in my head. At some point of time I even deviated from the original intended style.

This also doubles up as my submission for Illustration Friday's 'Little Things'. Cos' certain little things in this illustration make me happy. Like her scarf (I certainly seem to have developed a scarf fetish). And the trees. And the colour red.

Of course, there are little things I'm not happy with too. Like her features. Maybe her pose? (I've never been ice-skating before. I've never even seen snow. It does'nt snow out here in the south of India and inspite of all the travelling I've done, I've never been anywhere where it's snowed.) And now that I think of it, the colour of her pants.

Will probably (hopefully) give this illustration another shot in my usual style. In the meantime, do let me know what you think!

Cheers.

Illustration Friday : Trick Or Treat + Monster Mash

(Click on image for a closer look)

We don't celebrate Halloween around these parts,
but here's wishing all of you who do, a fun Halloween. :)
The monster in the above illustration has been taken
from my submission to Penelope Dullaghan's
2007 Monster Mash Creative Halloween Contest, as seen below.

Today is the last day for submissions, so if you haven't already sent in your image, do it now!

Illustration Friday : Grow

Leo, my two year old Labrador.

One of his favorite things to do when he's really bored or wanting attention is to grab the nearest shoe and either wait for someone to chase him around the furniture to retrieve it or failing that, sit down to an hour or so of leisurely gnawing.

Some people say he'll grow out of his mischievous streak as he grows older. When I'm most frustrated with him, I hope he does. Most of the time though, I really hope he doesn't. Cos' it's one of the things that goes toward making him the lovable imp that he is.

Cheers.

Illustration Friday : Open

(Click on image for a closer look)

'Be open', she says (with her arms wide open).

Phew!!! Made it! When I realized today was Thursday, I decided that even though there was'nt much time left I had to make something for Illo Fri. Well, not only because I missed last week's topic but also because this week's topic is special, as Penelope says on the site -

'This week’s topic is “open” (originally submitted by captinamazin.blogspot.com)… but it’s a special topic, so please read on:

Ta-Da!
We here at Illustration Friday are so excited to announce the first ever Illustration Friday gallery show!

Open, a bookstore and art gallery in Long Beach, California in Long Beach, California is sponsoring this week’s topic, “open“, and in a show opening November 3rd — in less than a month — they will display 25 IF entries. Which 25? That’s up to you, the loverly IF community! You get to vote on your favorites to decide which ones go up on the walls.

(The votes will only be visible to Brianna and I, in order to keep with the non-competitive and encouraging spirit of IF. We thought having the community vote anonymously was the best way to achieve that.)

To participate, create a piece for this week’s topic, “Open”, just like every week… and if you’d like to be included in the gallery show voting, just mark that box when you submit. The Illustration Friday community will then be able to see you are participating and can vote for your entry.

As usual, you only have one week to submit your piece. After that, the topic is closed. (You guys are old pros at this!)

To vote, you need to log into the forums with your username and password. (If you don’t have an account in the forums, simply click on the gray star next to the participants’ entries and it will take you to a signup page.) Then click on the Link Viewer to choose faves.

You are allowed only 5 votes. After you choose your 5 favorites, you will not be able to vote anymore… so choose wisely! :)

You will be able to vote for two weeks (this week and next), after that, we will see which pieces were given the most stars, and they will be asked to show at Open.'

Read more about the show and how you can vote over here.

So considering the huge opportunity the folks at Illo Fri have offered illustrators, it did'nt seem fair to not participate at all. This illustration was inspired by an illustration I did for Illustration Friday almost a year ago. You can look at it here.

Check out all the great illustrations over at the Illustration Friday site.

Cheers!

Illustration Friday : Juggle

(Click on image for a larger view)

This little guy can not only juggle, he can do it while balancing on one foot on a tightrope! :D

Feels great to be posting to Illustration Friday again.

For all those who know me from here ('The Rightbrainers' blog), this blog will pick up from where that one left off. Why? Well, just felt the need for a fresh start...

:)
Cheers!
