Illustration Friday: Backwards

Backward (adverb- at or to or toward the back or rear) glances from pretty young women can be pretty potent to backward ( adj. bashful or hesitant; shy) young men. So potent in fact, that in this particular case, the young man in question (being a recipient of such a backward glance) is about to make a complete fool of himself by wandering off the path and into a tree. Here's a closer look at the backward glance...


In case you're wondering about the girly dog's expression, she's probably going 'Hmph, how totally backward (synonym - retarded, underdeveloped)!' Can you blame her? You would too, if you saw someone walk into a tree.

Also, for the definition of the word 'backwards' as shy, hesitant etc., dictionary.com provides the following example -

9.bashful or hesitant; shy: a backward lover.

Backward lover? Lol...for some reason using those two words together strikes me as hilarious and just saying it in my head (forget aloud) makes me feel silly! Is it just me?

    This is adorable. I like the slightly 60s retro graphic feel to it too. But it's still very contemporary at the same time. Great!

    Awww...this is great! Very very nice! I love it!
    Backward Lovers does sounds funny, doesn't it? But it can also be a really cool band name, heehee!! :) I have to say doing illustration friday makes me re-learn a lot of words cause I have to look in the dictionary and really see what the word means!

    This is great. I like the concept, the composition, the characters... I love the expressions on their faces - I love the girl's little dog's frown. And the patterns on the clothes are very nice.
